Research area

My research focuses on exploring the role of repeat elements, non-coding RNAs and distal regulatory elements in type 1 diabetes (T1D) using computational biology methods. I am intergrating and analyzing large datasets such as RNA-sequencing data and genome-wide association scans (GWAS).

Non coding RNAs and repeat elements in type 1 diabetes

Various classes of non-coding RNAs including circRNAs and long non-coding RNAs that may play a role for T1D development are investigated in human pancreatic islets.

Genotype-to-phenotype mapping in type 1 diabetes

Next-generation sequencing and GWAS data are integrated to identify potential functional disease-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms.

Current research

Regulatory elements in type 1 diabetes loci

Aim: To identity aberrantly-regulated non-coding RNAs in human pancreatic islets following exposure to cytokines.
