We work with identification of genetic, proteomic, metabolomic and other biomarkers predicting risk for initiation or progression of complications. We have selected cohorts with type 1 and type 2 diabetes with long follow-up to identify risk markers and develop risk models for complications to be applied in clinical management. We have worked with imaging: ultrasound for carotid plaque volume determination, heart function as well as CT and PET CT for assessment of cardiac function.
Clinical studies of interventions aiming at preventing or treating complications
We have been involved in clinical studies in phase 1-4 aiming to develop, test and validate new therapies. We have contributed to multiple studies changing clinical management of complications such as implementation of SGLT2inhibitors, nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists and GLP1- RA in kidney disease. Have contributed to translate findings into clinical guidelines such as ADA/EASD and KDIGO guidelines and national Danish guidelines.
We have conducted investigator initiated studies alone or in academic collaborations, including Steno National Collaborative projects such as IntenCT and Steno1 and have performed studies to understand pathophysiology and mode of action of new interventstions.
