The Department of Education develops and holds courses on diabetes for health professionals. The department contains both educational and teaching activities and a knowledge centre. The goal is to raise and strengthen the quality of both treatment and knowledge about diabetes. Regional, national and international.
Vision
The department must be a learning center and a driving force which, through education, research and knowledge sharing, raises and strengthens diabetes-relevant knowledge and competences locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Strategic focus
The strategic objective is, through a systematic, evidence-based approach, to develop and offer diabetes-relevant training to healthcare staff and other actors at different levels:
- Education and teaching. Continuing and further education of health professionals and other professional groups in hospitals, in municipalities and in general practice, as well as SOSU students, professional bachelor students and health students
- Knowledge Center. The Knowledge Center for Diabetes must gather and share the latest research-based and practice-based knowledge in relation to people with diabetes, relatives, risk groups, professionals and others with an interest in diabetes

The department is organized in 3 teams.
Our foundation
High professionalism in the development of material and activities which are research and/or knowledge-based, have a practical aim and are based on the latest knowledge.
Teaching methods and forms that support learning active involvement of the participants and initiate reflection to enhance learning. The methods depend on the target group's needs, context and knowledge.
Systematic evaluation and documentation of and follow-up on teaching activities and material development based on validated methods.
User involvement that covers both people with diabetes and target group involvement in collaboration with the SDCC user involvement program. Work is carried out with a systematic uncovering of learning needs and context, so that the greatest possible learning benefit and usability for the users is ensured.
Activities
- Wide range of courses for health professionals in the Capital Region.
- Offers such as tailor-made courses for specific groups of health professionals.
- Cooperation with the Social and Health Schools in the Capital Region.
- Summer school for nursing students and nurses with education in diabetes, care and treatment. Collaboration with Copenhagen University of Applied Sciences.
- Cooperation with the primary sector - currently with Ishøj Municipality and Frederiksberg Municipality regarding the training of nurses and social and health assistants.
- Supplementary treatment initiatives in collaboration with Copenhagen Municipality, Center for Diabetes, KAP-H, general practice and Department of Endocrinology at Amager-Hvidovre Hospital.
- Research projects in collaboration with endocrinology and orthopedic surgery departments at Rigshospitalet, Bispebjerg, Nordsjælland and Herlev-Gentofte hospitals as well as with the Psychiatric Center Ballerup and Nordsjælland.
