Organisation

Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen is organised in four departments: Diabetes Care, Clinical and Translational Research, Research in Prevention, Health Promotion and Communities and The Education Department. In addition, there are three support functions: Administration, Quality and Supplementary Treatment Initiatives.

For more than 92 years Steno Diabetes Center has been run as a hospital, specialised in patient care, research, prevention of diabetes, and in education of healthcare professionals within diabetes.

History

Niels Steensens Hospital was founded in 1932 to improve diabetes treatment. In 1991, the hospital was merged with Hvidøre Hospital, creating the Steno Diabetes Center. In 2017 Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) was established as SDCC and became a part of the public health system in the Capital Region of Denmark.

Board of directors

The members of the Board of Directors have been appointed by the Regional Council for the Capital Region of Denmark. The Board is responsible for the SDCC’s overall strategy and management.
