Christians research has covered both epidemiological studies on large national and international population-based cohorts as well as clinical cross-sectional and interventional studies in both single and multi-centre studies in the field of peripheral an autonomic neuropathy. He heads one of the largest neuropathy screening cohort at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) comprising almost 1800 diabetes patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes established in 2022. In 2024 Christian will lead or co-lead three new projects with focus on genetic risk factors of diabetic neuropathy, development of a new methods of assessing small nerve fibres in the skin and a trail on the efficacy of the treatment with a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist on autonomic neuropathy.

  • Co-PI on study on brain function in people with type 2 diabetes and CAN (Multi-centre study) (ongoing recruiting)

  • Co-PI on study on genetic risk factors for diabetic neuropathy in Greenlandic intuit and Danish type 2 diabetes patients (multi-centre study) (Financed, planning phase)​

  • Co-PI on study on development of new modality assessing small fibre neuropathy in skin (multi-centre study) (Financed, on-going)

  • PI on randomized placebo-controlled trial on efficacy of finerone on diabetic neuropathy (multi-centre trial) (Financed, planning phase)

  • PI on Neuropathy screening study (DANES). Ongoing screening study where 1800 people with diabetes at SDCC are deeply phenotyped for neuropathy (single-center study). (on-going, data analyses and biobank utilization)

  • PI on study generating national normative data for cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy (CAN) measures from 1200 non-diabetic people (multi-center study) (on-going, data analyses and biobank utilization)
