Research area

I am a senior researcher with passion for research to identify potential molecular markers and genes for chronic complex disorders:
1. Diabetes complications
2. Asthma (especially identification of genetic and metabolomic signatures of these disorders).

Current research

I am currently leading the following projects from the 2 affiliated centers (Steno Diabetes Center Copenhgen (SDCC) and COPSAC):

  • Identification of molecular markers (genomics/metabolomics) for diabetes and related complications (nephropathy and cardiovascular disease) – collaborating with key International consortia
  • Genetics of severe childhood asthma (collaborators: Harvard University Hospital)
  • A cutting edge project to discover the common genetic pathways between asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD) and obesity – where I bring together University of Copenhagen (NNF CBMR), Steno Diabetes Centre, COPSAC and Harvard.

Some of the lead projects as a first or senior author are as follows:

  • • Identification of coding genetic variants for albuminuria and kidney function and examining their association with related outcomes (collaborating with key International consortia)
  • • Unravelling Novel genes and Pathways for severe childhood asthma with exacerbations (collaborators: Harvard University Hospital)
  • • Identification of single and multi time point Lipidomics markers for albuminuria in diabetes patients and diabetic macrovascular complications (CVD)
