Current research
Longitudinal Changes in Cardiac Structure and Function in People with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes and Association between Oral Health, Diabetes, and Cardiovascular Complications:
Reexamination of the Thousand & 1 and Thousand & 2 Cohorts
- Determine oral health status in adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the relationship with clinical characteristics and complications including cardiovascular and microvascular (retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy) with particular focus on cardiac function.
- Determine longitudinal changes in cardiac structure and function by echocardiography in adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes compared to the general population.
- Assess risk factors for the development and progression of abnormal cardiac structure and systolic and diastolic impairment in adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
