Healthy lifestyle before and during pregnancy to prevent childhood obesity - the PRE-STORK-trial

A randomised, parallel group, tailored multifactorial lifestyle intervention trial among women with overweight or obesity seeking pregnancy.

Background and Aim

Studies have indicated that maternal obesity before conception and a maternal weight gain above the recommended during the first trimester are closely linked to neonatal adiposity and children being born large for gestational age. Several studies have examined the effect of lifestyle interventions (diet and/or exercise) during pregnancy in women with overweight or obesity, but with limited improvement in adiposity of their offspring. The Primary purpose of the PRE-STORK trial is to investigate the effect on neonatal adiposity at birth of a tailored, intensive, multifactorial lifestyle intervention in women with overweight or obesity before and during pregnancy, compared to standard medical and obstetrical care.

Period: The study runs from 01.01.2022 to 31.12.2027
