The COVID-19 pandemic constitutes a global crisis that affects all parts of life. People with diabetes have an increased risk of undergoing more serious disease trajectories if infected with the Corona virus. Knowing this, people with diabetes are potentially more likely to experience psychosocial issues such as worries about being infected, worries about their diabetes management, psychological and diabetes-related distress, anxiety and loneliness, all related to the pandemic.
This project investigates how psychosocial health among people with diabetes is affected by the pandemic. The project consists of and draws data from:
- A large-scale longitudinal survey of 1,366 people with diabetes consisting of six consecutive questionnaires from March-June 2020, follow up in April 2021
- 20+ interviews with people with diabetes focusing on psychological and social consequences of the pandemic
Published results of the project can be found in the links below.
Future steps of the project include conducting a follow-up survey in March 2021 of the same respondents to elicit any changes in psychosocial health over a longer period.
