Optimal Non-pharmacological Lifestyle Modifications in People with Type 2 Diabetes (ON LiMiT)

Study Design

The study is divided into three phases:

  1. Needs assessment study
  2. A 1-year randomized clinical trial (pilot study) including 24 participants
  3. A 2-year randomized clinical trial including 1,500 participants

Background and Aim

Background: The increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes places a substantial burden on the healthcare system and negatively affects patients' quality of life. Weight loss and lifestyle modifications have been shown to induce remission of type 2 diabetes; however, there is limited knowledge on how remission can best be achieved and maintained over time.

Target population: Individuals with type 2 diabetes with a diabetes duration of ≤6 years.

Objective: To investigate whether remission of type 2 diabetes can be achieved and sustained through weight loss and lifestyle modification.

Period:  The study will run from 01.01.2025 to 31.12.2030.
